Super Smash Duel

Super Smash Duel (abbreviated as "SSD") is a game currently in development by Dan Wheeler (also known as X2I). It is being made in Adobe Flash CS3 and is due for a first demo very soon. It is a game that is based off of the Nintendo Wii game Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It has an official Website which can be viewed at here.
The objective of the game is to provide a flash game that, unlike Super Smash Flash 2, will be strictly based off of Super Smash Bros Brawl. It has been mentioned, however, that despite the game being based off of Super Smash Bros Brawl, there will be some extra features not included in Brawl, such as the return of Race to the Finish and the character Roy. Some of the extra features are tentative and may not actually be added to the game.

As of yet, this game requires two people to play using the keyboard. Keys can be customized using the menu. And although there are four counters, only players 1 and 2 work.
You can play as Mario, Luigi, Sonic, Pikachu, Kirby, Link and Peach (to access peach, just drop the cursor under Luigi's square)
Levels include Battlefield, Yoshi's Island, Norfair, Pokémon Stadium, Bridge of Eldin,Warioware, Green Hill, Mario Circuit.
To spawn a smash ball press the END key. No other items exist as of yet besides the hammer on Battlefield (Section by AracnoX)

You can play as Mario, Sonic, Jigglypuff (Unfinished), Squirtle (Nearly Complete), Ivysaur (Half complete) and Charizard (No where near complete). Note that Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard are all part of the pokémon trainer character and can be switched by pressing taunt and the smash button.
Levels include Battlefield, Yoshi's Island, Norfair, Pokémon Stadium, Bridge of Eldin, Warioware, Smashville and Frigate Orpheon.
To spawn a smash ball press the END key. Items that exist are Heart containers, Pokeballs (containing Bellossom, Electrode and Snorlax) and an Assist Trophy containing Shadow. Sorry you have to restart the flash to have another go. Yes you can still highlight characters that are missing from the last demo but they will not load. Also some levels that worked previously will now not work the same (the ones not mentioned above)

[edit] Mario
Mario is the well-balanced character once again, with average jump height, power, speed, and weight. His moveset is that of the first Super Smash Bros, meaning that his cape and FLUDD have been discarded and his Mario Tornado makes its triumphant return.[1]
SSD Description:
- "With his familiar red cap, blue overalls and bushy moustache, the world-famous 'Mr Video Game' is about to set foot into Super Smash Duel for the first time.
- "Having attained veteran status in Super Smash Brothers™ he should be destined to do well in this duel."
Final Smash:
Mario launches a huge blast of fire and totally obliterates anyone who is in the way - it can only be used once and can only be fired in one direction.
[edit] Sonic
Sonic is the fastest character in the game, which means that his inertia is his weakness. His moveset is slightly different from his Brawl moveset, because he can Spin Dash upwards (as his up special) and his down special doubles as a shield.[2]
SSD Description:
- "Sega's number one mascot and rival to Mario since the dawn of computer gaming.
- "Sonic speed's into the duel at blistering speeds with some interesting fighting techniques."
Final Smash:
Sonic transforms into super sonic where he can then fly freely around the stage pummelling opponents. This effect wears off shortly though and Sonic returns to his normal form.

Link is one of the faster, more powerful characters in the game, but his jump is lacking. Link himself plays just like his N64 counterpart, with the same moveset. [3]

- "Link wields the Master Sword and a diverse arsenal of equipment.
Use his weapons to adapt to the ebb and flow of battle."

Pikachu is one of the higher jumpers in the game that doesn't have more than the standard amount of jumps (3). His moveset is identical to the N64 moveset.[4]
SSD Description:
- "With perfectly round cheeks and a jagged tail, this can only be that most familiar of Pokémon, Pikachu!"
- "It may be small and agile, but its electricity gives it powerful attacks."

Kirby fast and floaty (having the highest vertical jump), but he is also the second lightest character in the game, allowing him to be knocked off at relatively low damage percentages. His moveset is identical to the N64 version. [5]

- "This is Kirby, Warp Star-riding citizen of Dream Land, who can suck up anything.
- "His copy abilities allow him to steal the powers of other characters!"
[edit] Pokémon Trainer
Pokemon Trainer uses three Pokémon to battle for him. Each of the three Pokémon are based off of speed, balance, and power, respectively. Because of the 3 specials and the fact that the Pokémon aren't swapped out using a special move, this allows for some radically different movesets. Pokémon Trainer is not yet complete, since the Pokémon seem to be lacking some moves.[6]

- "No way! The Pokémon Trainer has finally arrived. And it looks like he doesn’t do his fighting directly.
- "Instead, he uses the three Pokémon with him – Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard – to do the fighting for him."

Peach retains her ability to float, however she loses the Toad's Defense move in favor of her Peach Bomb. Sometimes, one can't trust everything the character bio says...[7]
SSD Description:
- "The princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, Peach is joining the duel! She’ll do what she has to, even when she’s all dressed up.
- "She can silence both Mario and Bowser with her floating jumps and Toad defence. This is no time to get kidnapped."

The following characters have also been confirmed by the Dojo, and can be playable under certain conditions.
[edit] Jigglypuff
Jigglypuff may be taken lightly, since she is the lightest character in the game and can be knocked off at percentages that other characters would hardly flinch at. She has a great recovery and a removal of the useless* Pound attack to make up for her lightness.[8]
-*This game is NOT an actual Super Smash Bros game, so her Pound attack would technically be useless due to the fact that it doesn't work the same way as the official games.
To unlock:
- Clear Solo Classic Mode on any setting with any character

-Play 15 Group Vs Matches SSD Description:
- "A rather songful pokémon, Jigglypuff can put almost anybody to sleep with her famous lullaby.
"Jigglypuff looks weak but don't misjudge her, she can be quite a handful if taken lightly!"

Luigi is a lighter, weaker version of Mario, but he is better recovery-wise and speed-wise. Although based off of his N64 version, Luigi has a few unique moves that allow him to keep his "Luigified" title.[9]
To unlock:
- Defeat Solo Adventure with Mario on any setting

- Play 30 Group Vs Matches SSD Description: "Luigi is the dreamy, comical poster boy of the Smash series, and everywhere he goes his slightly awkward presence is felt.
"Brother to Mario, Luigi is almost identical to him in some respects but he has his induvidual traits that makes him 'everyone's favourite guy in green'!"

Some characters are currently having makeovers. Therefore some of the images contained in the dojo do not truly represent what the characters will look like in later releases

X2I (Maker of SSD) is trying to find a way that this game could be online, however as of yet no plans for this game to be exist.
Talks of scoreboards and possibly in-game achievements are in the works, however this is down to the flow of the game and will probably come nearer the end of completion.
[edit] Stages
The stages are going to be the same as brawl.
Stages Now Confirmed:
Super Smash Duel's main fighting stage and arguebly the most effective of stages when it comes to a good brawl. Depending on what time you play this level, the time of day will also change in game.
The pastel stage of Yoshi’s Island... Mmm... It feels nice and peaceful here. The highlight of this stage is its seasonal changes, it can be summer, autumn and even winter.
Norfair is the location in Metroid where the enemy boss Ridley was. There was a lot of lava, and it seemed like a rather hot area. Skill is required in order to stay on the platforms because its a long, hot journey down.
The pokémon stadium, a place where pokémon trainers come to test their pokémon in the heat of battle. However this time everyone is putting themselves to the test... Pokéballs will fall regularly here so use them as you will.
The bridge of Eldin from the zelda series makes its appearance as a quite equal playing field, with no platforms or hiding places - it's just you and your foes! Unlike Brawl - this level has pitfall's either side where the bridge has been destroyed over time. This level can also be played at night as well.
Sonic The Hedgehog's trademark level from his first appearance on the Mega Drive Console. The camera doesn't move on this stage, instead it stays stationary so try and stay in the center!
In the WarioWare games, you must master a variety of microgames. You might want to look into it in more detail when it comes to this level. You will be faced with different situations depending on the backdrop. The settings will be different each time you play.
From the classic mario kart games comes the high speed action stage that is Mario Circuit. Not only do you have to battle with your enemies, but you have to dodge the racing shyguys to boot. They can cause pretty bad damage if they hit you. Do your best to get outta the way when the warning sign signals you too - this avoids you getting run over!
This should be a familiar sight to Animal Crossing fans. It’s very clearly the world of Animal Crossing, and what do you think of all those guests hanging out? There sure are a few. It’s like they all came to watch the big event. You can even play this stage at night! What's better is that if you play this game between the hours of 8 and 9 on a saturday night - you may even get a surprise!
This appears in Metroid Prime. It’s the first spaceship Samus infiltrates. What you see in the background is supposed to be the Parasite Queen. The stage doesn't rotate like in Brawl, however there are two handy platforms to aid recovery at each side.
The pictochat stage is a unique stage because it allows you to draw your own terrain and fight on it. You can only use this feature when setting up your own battles however, when fighting on this stage anywhere else the terrain will be drawn for you with a selection of 9 different stages.

The items are going to be the same as brawl.
Items Now Confirmed:
The smash ball is quite literally the most sought after item within the entire game. It will appear randomly on the screen and float around in different directions. Your mission is to attack the smash ball until it bestows its power upon to you. When you have its power under your belt - its final smash time!
Pokéballs can sometimes play a massive roll in a match, they contain a hidden pokémon that players can unleash upon their enemies. Be careful though because with such a wide array of different pokémon that can appear randomly, not every one of them is entirely helpful, neither to you or your foes.
An assist trophy contains many mysterious forces that will aide you in your battle. They will appear on the stage and stay present for a short period of time - you then have a chance to break it open and unleash it's surprise upon your opponents.
The almighty hammer appears from nowhere to strike havoc from those who are lucky to posess it. Just like most other items, simply stand over it and press the attack button.
These only appear when Peach has used her final smash. They restore 25% of health each so it is vital you don't let too many of them get taken from you!
These heart containers are vital for your survival if your health looks bleak. In an ordinary battle they will restore 100% of your health if picked up.
The Maxim Tomato will restore 50% of your HP so they are worth picking up if you can.
[edit] Trophies
Throughout Super Smash Duel, there are plenty of things to unlock, one of them being trophies. Each trophy is a souvenir of certain aspects of the game. Admittedly there are a lot trophies to collect and ways to get them, but that's all part of the fun right?
However, the way in which trophies work in this game is slightly different. When you unlock a trophy, you will be given a code which you must enter into the Trophy Dispenser. If a correct code is entered then you will be awarded with your trophy.
To make things a little more fun. You will be able to login to a special area using your own unique membership account. There you can store the trophies that you have collected and allow other members to see your collection. It is up to you whether you share the codes with others, but wouldn't it be cool to have a trophy that no-one else has?
