Ledge and floor recoveries are a class of moves that can be performed by a character who is lying on the ground or hanging on a ledge. Attacks from these states are generally called get-up attacks (or ledge attacks if done from a ledge) while other moves that return the character to a normal standing state are generally called get-up animations.

When lying on the ground, a horizontal input on the control stick causes the character to roll in the inputted direction, while up and shield cause the character to get up in place without rolling.

Pressing A or B will activate one of two small attacks depending on whether the character is facing upwards or downwards.

While hanging on the ledge, one can either roll (with a shield button), get up normally (with a jump input (Super Smash Bros. Melee) or by tapping toward the ledge (Super Smash Bros. Brawl)), let go (by tapping away from the ledge or downwards), jump (Super Smash Bros. Brawl only) or perform an attack (with A or B). There are two ledge attacks for each character and the one used depends on whether the character is above or below 100% in damage.

If you press the Jump button, your character will be launched up and avoid any characters waiting to strike, but you don't get any invicibility frames.

If a character has at least 100% in damage, it will, with few exceptions, take longer to start up most of the aforementioned actions from the ledge, usually having less range as well.
