The original Game Boy (ゲームボーイ, Gēmu Bōi) is a monochrome handheld video game system made by Nintendo, first released in 1989. Its most popular games are the Pokémon series.

Released only in Japan, this model is nearly identical to the Game Boy Pocket, only featuring a lit screen.

(ゲームボーイカラー, Gēmu Bōi Karā)
New hardware capable of displaying "GBC games" in full color. Slightly larger than Game Boy Pocket, backwards compatible with previous Game Boy games, and also featured an IR communication link.

New hardware featuring 32-bit color graphics and a wider screen. The first Game Boy to feature a wide-length design. Backwards compatible with both GBC and GB games.

Smaller, folding "clam-shell" design model of GBA. Uses built-in rechargeable battery. Most notably featuring a lit screen which original model lacked.

Plays only GBA games and is an extremely small handheld, approximately the size of six keyboard keys wide and two keys tall.
