Edge-tech
From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki
An edge-tech is a tricky form of teching. It is teching on the edge.

[edit] Performing the Technique
Like any normal tech, L or R must be pressed at least 20 frames before hitting the edge. If done too early, the character won't be able to tech again for quite some time. If done too late, the character will miss the tech and hit the edge like normal.
It is recommended that L or R be pressed right after, or in the middle of, the character's Up+B. Since most Up+B's are either shorter than, or around 20 frames, this usually works quite well and with great ease.
Also, if up on the Control stick is held, the character will perform a wall jump tech, where he will wall jump after the tech.
[edit] Practicing the Technique
Some suggest that the easiest way to practice edge-techs is to go into Training mode and stand near the edge. Select a Motion-sensor Bomb and jump off. Throw the Motion-sensor Bomb near the edge and fall down a bit. Jump and Up+B into the edge and try to time the edge-tech.
The best way, however, is try practicing in real matches. There is no substitute for the real deal.
[edit] Uses of the Technique
Keeping the character alive. The game is won by knocking the other person off the stage first. Edge-teching helps keep the character on the stage, or at least making it possible to recover to the stage.
